Signs Your AC Needs To Be Charged

There are several routine maintenance services that every vehicle needs to continue operating properly. An
air conditioning
recharge is one of these services.
Most people think that an AC recharge simply ensures that your AC will continue to blow cold air. While an AC recharge does do this, it also helps you avoid expensive repair bills.
Read on to learn more about the importance of AC recharges.
Why do I need to recharge my AC?
There are two main reasons that you need to recharge your AC. First, your AC will not blow cold air if it has run out of freon refrigerant. Instead, it will either blow warm air or not work at all. Second, your vehicle's AC compressor could sustain serious damage if you run it when there is no freon in the system. This damage could mean that you have to pay for expensive repairs. You can avoid this by coming in for an AC recharge service.
What happens during an AC recharge?
An AC recharge is a fairly simple service. First, your technician will inject a dye into your vehicle's AC system. This will make it easy for them to spot any leaks. Once they have determined whether your car's AC system is leaking, they will remove whatever refrigerant is left in your car's AC system. They will do this because the old refrigerant may not work as well as fresh refrigerant. When the technicians have finished sucking out the old freon, they will fill your car's AC system with new freon.
How do I know when it should be recharged?
When it's time for your AC to be recharged, it will let you know in two simple ways.
Your AC is blowing warm air
The most common sign of an overdue AC recharge is the AC system blowing warm air. This often means that your AC system has run out of refrigerant. If your AC system is blowing warm air, you should first check the settings to ensure that you didn't accidentally put the heater on instead of the AC. If the AC is blowing warm air when it is supposed to be blowing cold air, this is a surefire sign that you need to bring your car in for a service. Continuing to use the AC could even cause damage that may result in a large repair bill.
Your AC is leaking
A leaking AC certainly needs to be serviced. If all the refrigerant has leaked out of the AC it needs to be recharged. It may also need a more extensive service. However, minor AC leaks can be fixed with a special type of refrigerant that includes a leak sealing component. Your technician will let you know if your vehicle's AC system needs additional maintenance due to a severe leak.
Visit United Tire for an AC recharge
If your vehicle needs an AC recharge, it's best to leave it up to the professionals. While some people do attempt an AC recharge service themselves, this task is trickier than it may seem. Failing to do it properly could result in expensive repairs. Instead of doing this service yourself, simply bring your vehicle to one of United Tire's locations. Our technicians have the training and equipment required to do an AC recharge properly. We can also take care of any other maintenance your vehicle may need. Call your local United Tire location or
